Weekly Research Bite How quickly will consumers return to restaurants?
At the end of March 2020, more than half of consumers in Europe (51%) indicated that – even if restaurant doors open again – they will wait before they start visiting them. When we asked that same question again in mid-May, that percentage even increased: Meanwhile it increased to 57% of consumers agreeing with the statement to wait after openings. No surprise that the younger consumers are less concerned and share a willingness to come back earlier. But there are more interesting differences between countries: Germans indicate they are the least concerned to come back, Brits and Spaniards are most concerned. There seems to be a correlation between the level of concern and how hard a country was hit by the pandemic. www.npdgroup.com
