Our weekly newsletter covers noteworthy and curious news from the international hospitality business. Find out what we've discovered about Starbucks Seattle, Darden Restaurants and Lidl. Also, take a look at our market research about the opportunities of digital ordering.

The restaurant industry has certainly not been a fast mover regarding digital ordering over the last decade. However, it is catching up. In 2015, European consumers spent a little over €5 billion for products being ordered digitally. In 2019 this number grew to an impressive €16 billion. This means the compound annual growth rate has been +30% and therefore grew 12 times faster than the whole market being now 5% of consumer spend. Of course ordering digitally for delivery is one key driver, whether it is through aggregators or directly at the restaurant and whether it is through an app or the internet. However, we also measure a fast growing acceptance of Click&Collect as well as digital orders (through terminals) in the stores.www.npdgroup.com
