Lufthansa launches cooperation with two new partners

The self-proclaimed "Fresh Casual" concept Dean & David is taking to the skies: just in time for the start of the Whitsun holidays, a wide and high-quality food offering of freshly prepared salads, bowls, wraps and sandwiches from the brand is now available on short- and medium-haul Lufthansa flights. Dallmayr is also cooperating with Lufthansa.

The menu of the summer flight schedule includes the vegan Falafel Tahini Salad, the Crunchy Chicken Bowl or the Tomato Mozzarella Sandwich. In addition, the menu is supplemented by desserts, such as the freshly stirred Bircher Muesli, as well as the Ginger Shot with Pomegranate & Açai from Dean & David Superfood. So-called "Best of Dean & David" boxes with a selection from the range complete the offer. The menu is updated every three months.

Sustainable packaging and food waste

The new range also places a particular emphasis on sustainability. As has been Dean & David's in-store practice for years, the packaging uses almost exclusively sustainable materials. It also ensures that less food is wasted through more precise production. The preparation always takes place fresh on site.

"We are very pleased about the start of our cooperation, which coincides with the beginning of summer. For us, it is a very special highlight to be able to provide travelers on board Lufthansa with fresh food in the future," says David Baumgartner, founder of Dean & David. The meals offered under the slogan "Lovingly handmade - fresh & natural" are available for a fee on all Lufthansa short- and medium-haul flights from 60 minutes.
About Dean & David
Dean&David was founded in 2007 by David Baumgartner after a trip around the world. The menu includes fresh salads, hot Asian curries, bowls with quinoa and superfoods, grilled sandwiches and wraps, and freshly squeezed smoothies. The concept has won many awards, including the prestigious Hamburg foodservice prize in 2017. Before the pandemic, system sales were around 90 million euros per year.

Coffee enjoyment with Dallmayr

In addition to the fresh Dean & David dishes, Lufthansa also announces its cooperation with coffee partner Dallmayr. Also from a flight time of 60 minutes, Economy Class passengers will enjoy the new culinary food offer "Onboard Delights" with hot drinks and confectionery and patisserie specialties from the partner.

"Sustainability and environmental protection are as close to Lufthansa's heart as they are to ours. Our common goal is to ensure that passengers feel good throughout their journey on board," explains Dr. Johannes Dengler, member of the Dallmayr Kaffee management board.

The centrepiece of the Dallmayr product range is the Dano project coffee. Dallmayr has been committed to the development projects of the "Menschen für Menschen" foundation since 2008 by selling single-origin Ethiopian coffee. By planting millions of trees, building a school and establishing a sustainable coffee region, Dallmayr is creating long-term prospects for the people in the Dano region.

"Together with Lufthansa, we deliberately chose our Dano project coffee in order to allow passengers to participate transparently in the projects in Ethiopia," says Daniel Rizzotti, Marketing Dallmayr Coffee.

Passengers can also choose between organic teas such as First Flush Darjeeling, Japan Sencha, Alpine Herbs and Passion Fruit/Orange. In addition to fine drinking chocolate and a quartet of chocolates from the in-house chocolate manufactory, there is also a changing, fresh selection of cakes offered in cooperation with Gate Gourmet.
