What are the most beautiful restaurants & bars in 2022?

The interior of a location is an important building block for success, in addition to the quality of the food and drinks and a knowledgeable and cordial service. Fourth edition of the Challenge for German-speaking countries.

There are plenty of awards and accolades for chefs and food concepts. The competition "The Most Beautiful Restaurants and Bars", however, focuses on the visual appearance of a restaurant. It is about interior design in combination with new food and gastronomy concepts. After all, design and ambience are an increasingly important factor in the overall gastronomic concept. Emotionally charged locations are the theme of the future. The award is intended to honour the important role played by these establishments as "public living rooms". Both exclusive insider tips, spectacular new openings and successful redesigns and renovations will be considered.

The initiator of the competition is the Munich publishing house Callwey Verlag. The ahgz Allgemeine Hotel- und Gastronomie-Zeitung, the architecture magazine Baumeister, the magazine B-EAT and Salon, the bdia Bund Deutscher Innenarchitekten and the Dehoga Bundesverband are partners.

Restaurateurs, hoteliers with their gastronomy projects, interior designers and fit-out companies cantake part. The submitted restaurant and bar interiors should not be older than five years (completion after 1 January 2016). A participation fee of 320 euros (plus VAT) is charged per project. Members of the bdia Bund Deutscher Innenarchitekten can participate for a reduced fee of 260 euros. Until 12 July, there is an early bird participation fee of 290 euros (plus VAT) or 230 euros (plus VAT).

The submitted works will be judged by an independent jury, which includes:

  • Ingrid Hartges, Managing Director of Dehoga Bundesverband
  • Ludwig (Lucki) Maurer, top chef and restaurant operator
  • Matthias Niemeyer, architect, Bermüller + Niemeyer Architekturwerkstatt
  • Anne Petersen, editorial management Salon
  • Holger Zwink, chief of staff ahgz Allgemeine Hotel- und Gastronomie-Zeitung

The most beautiful restaurant and the most beautiful bar receive a broad media echo on the part of the trade and public media. All selected restaurants will receive an exclusive label that can be displayed on the door or in the restaurant as well as on the restaurant's own website and social media channels. The awards gala will take place during the Internorga trade fair. Together with the other selected winners, all winners will be presented in the yearbook "The Most Beautiful Restaurants and Bars", which will be available in stores from March 2022.

The product price

The "Innovation of the Year" is the product award for suppliers whose products make an important contribution to German gastronomy culture. Products from various categories are judged. All winners of the respective categories receive an attractive media package. Entries can be submitted in the following categories:
- Wall/floor design
- Furniture design
- Lighting
- Sanitary
- Kitchen technology
- Textiles/table linen
- Kitchen equipment
- Cash register/ordering systems
- Restaurant clothing
- Innovation of the year.

Manufacturers from the international area are eligible to participate. The market launch of the submitted products should not be longer than five years ago (after 1 January 2016).
