The contract caterer Sodexo continues to attract attention in Germany. After various management changes in the boardroom, it has now been announced that the education division will be sold.

According to the headquarters, the strategic decision has nothing to do with the coronavirus crisis, which has hit the school market particularly hard. Instead, the company wants to focus on the important areas of Coroporate Services, Seniors and Healthcare.

In the pre-Covid era, the Sodexo division generated sales of around 65 million euros. In the new ranking of B2B magazine gv-praxis, in 2020 the eternal number 3 (after Aramark and Compass) only ends up in 5th place with an estimated turnover of 193.3 million euros.

The new owner is Certina Holding, a family equity investor with an international presence and headquarters in Munich and Grünwald. The company says it has more than 25 years of investment experience and operational expertise in a wide range of industries. Certina is a long-term investor that develops companies in a sustainable manner, according to the press release. Certina intends to bring this experience and philosophy to the planned transaction. The parties have agreed not to disclose the sale price. The affected employees were informed on May 27.

"It is part of our culture and strategic corporate planning to continuously develop our portfolio, to create tailor-made solutions and to adapt the offer to the local needs in the markets", says Andrea Arntz-Kohl, CEO Education at Sodexo Germany. She added that the decision to focus on Corporate Services, Healthcare and Seniors had nothing to do with the great work of the team in the Education segment. "Nationwide, Sodexo continues to be a leading provider in school catering. However, we have seen increasing specialization in the school and daycare market," Arntz-Kohl continued.

"We are firmly convinced that this step will allow us to grow profitably with our segments in the long term and that our Education segment will be given the opportunity to develop successfully under the Certina umbrella," concludes Andrea Arntz-Kohl.
