Austria wants to implement further relaxations of the Corona measures at Easter at the earliest. The government wants to make a decision on this on 1 March, after consultations with experts.

Restaurants and hotels will remain closed in Austria for almost two more months. "If the gastronomy does not open, the Schanigärten will not open either," a government member is quoted as saying.

"At the earliest, from today's perspective, we expect further opening steps around Easter," Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said, according to news agency Reuters. According to Kurz, the infection situation remains stable despite the slight easing a week ago.

Extension of the tests

"But we are struggling with the fact that mutations have increased and are continuing to increase," the chancellor said. The country now wants to focus even more on testing. From 1 March, self-tests can be picked up free of charge in pharmacies.
