In the wake of the International Luxury Travel Market (ILTM) in Cannes, Marriott International announces plans to open more than 30 new luxury hotels in 2022.

A total of nearly 190 properties are currently in the pipeline, including 30 hotels to open in 2022 - all in both established, popular destinations and emerging destinations from Mexico to Portugal and Australia to South Korea. "Our guests crave deeper, immersive experiences that allow them to explore the world and unwind at the same time," said Chris Gabaldon, senior vice president, Luxury Brands, Marriott International.

A global study of luxury trends in collaboration with creative agency Team One found that today's affluent travelers are shifting from a "box checking" mentality to a "traveling well" mentality, meaning they are moving from "check off mode" to "stay well," and are taking a more thoughtful and deliberate approach to travel planning. With its global footprint, Marriott International is positioned to meet these evolving needs.

Expansion to Arizona is planned for 2022 with the opening of The Ritz-Carlton Paradise Valley, The Palmeraie, as well as New York City, where a hotel will open in the vibrant NoMad neighborhood and guest rooms will offer breathtaking views of the city.

The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne will expand the renowned brand's presence in Australia. Ritz-Carlton Reserve will expand its high-profile portfolio and open its sixth exceptional resort in China's historic Jiuzhaigou Valley. In keeping with the brand's forward-thinking design aesthetic, The Ritz-CarltonMoscow, The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman and The Ritz-Carlton, Naples will undergo extensive renovations in the coming year. In addition, the maiden voyage of The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection is expected to take place in May 2022.

In addition, a property for the brand is scheduled to launch in Belgrade. The number of resorts is expected to nearly double in the next five years. This year marked the debut of The St. Regis Bermuda Resort, Marriott International's first luxury resort in Bermuda, and next year it plans to open The St. Regis Kanai Resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico, which offers ocean views from nearly every vantage point. The St. Regis San Francisco is expected to complete a major renovation in 2022 and will feature a sophisticated new look and feel.

In 2021, W Hotels launched in locations such as Nashville, Osaka, Philadelphia, Melbourne, Xiamen and Rome, where most recently a 162-room W Hotel comprised of two 19th-century palazzi made the brand's highly anticipated debut in Italy. Currently, the brand includes about 60 hotels around the globe. Next year, hotels in the Algarve, Sydney, Dubai and Toronto will be added.

The Edition Hotels brand launched in Reykjavik and Dubai in 2021.
