Dinner was the most resistant daypart during the crisis
The most resistant daypart during the COVID-19 crisis from March to May 2020 vs 2019 was Dinner. Of course it also saw a steep decline and lost more than half of its customer traffic across the BIG 5 Western European countries. However, that was still better – or less bad – than any other time of the day. And through our CREST consumer panel, we have seen that trend being remarkably consistent throughout all of the five countries. Dinner was the time when consumers spent time at home – often as a family and consumers reported that meal to be their 'treat' to get them the foods they liked. Certainly, often times this was ordered for take-away or delivered for consumption at home.
