2019 was an expansive year for the largest European coffee shop concepts. The ranking of the top 80 brands shows around 7 percent more locations as of the reporting date of 31 December 2019, bringing the total to 18,838 stores (previous year 6 %). An exclusive analysis by foodservice Europe & Middle East, which presents the market even before the corona pandemic.
The top three players strengthened their dominance
on the European continent once again: Costa Coffee
(previous year +9 % to 3,174 stores), McCafé
(previous year estimated +4 % to 2,893 stores) and Starbucks
(previous year +5 % to 2,813 stores). Nearly 2,000 units now separate third from fourth place. The names of the top ten remain unchanged - only their arrangement has changed slightly: McCafé has pushed Starbucks to third place, and the Greek chain Gregory's takes ninth place from the Russian brand Shokoladnitsa.

The growth stars
figures are called 2019 Costa Coffee
with +251 coffee bars. Since 2018, Costa has been in the hands of the beverage giant Coca-Cola. In second and third place Coffee Like
(+241) and Starbucks
(+140). In relative
figures, the Russian chain One Price Coffee
is the leader with +1,040 percent. Second place goes to Coffee Way
(+67 %) and third place to Cofix
(+60 %) - both also from Russia.
