Limited-service restaurants in the US experienced particularly strong same-store sales growth during the first quarter of 2021, according to Technomic Ignite company data.
After a tumultuous 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, same-store sales results for publicly held chain restaurants improved significantly during the first quarter of 2021, jumping by an average rate of 9.1% on a year-over-year basis, the report reveals.
Despite notably improved results from many full-service chains, overall segment results remained negative during the first quarter, falling by 4.5%.
Limited-service chain results were significantly stronger, with Q1 same-store sales rising by 12.0%, boosted by double-digit quarterly increases from several key segment players, including McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Domino’s and Chipotle.
