This year, Anuga, the world's largest trade fair for food and beverages, will focus on and actively accompany the transformation of nutrition under the central theme of "Transform". The date is 9 to 13 October.

The pandemic has once again highlighted the volatility of the global food and ecosystem and the need for global change. There is no question that the industry is facing significant change in light of the climate challenges. Stefanie Mauritz, Director Anuga: "We see that in this context the implementation of the food turnaround is not only taking place in agriculture, in food and beverage production or in global supply and value chains, but it also demands a rethink in terms of eating habits and consumer behaviour."

The trade fair manager mentions keywords such as the increased demand for products with health benefits or a field of tension between different systems, for example globalisation versus deglobalisation or convenience versus sustainability and zero waste. Here Anuga will offer new formats "that make the numerous transformation processes visible".

10 trade fairs for inspiration

In addition to the 10 trade fairs, the new digital platform Anuga@home, which has already been announced, will provide new approaches and inspiration. It expands the presence trade fair into a hybrid format. This gives Anuga customers the option of being at the trade fair even without a physical visit.

The digital Anuga @home offers exhibitors various presentation options. Access to the platform is via the virtual lobby. Here there is an overview of all features as well as initial recommendations for relevant contacts, exhibitors and upcoming trade fair programme items. Further components are the "Main Stages" with the programme curated by Anuga. The "Congress Stages" are used, for example, by top speakers to present industry topics - live on site from Cologne or via stream from anywhere in the world.
The "Product Stages" present new products and highlights from exhibitors. There will also be other target group-specific stages here, including:
  • Anuga Trade Shows Stage
  • Anuga Start-up Stage
  • Anuga taste Innovation Stage
  • Anuga Food Trends Stage.
In the Exhibitors and Products area, the "Showfloor" is the counterpart to the exhibition hall. From here there is access to the various exhibitors' stands, the so-called "showrooms".

Food trends and focus topics

The transformation process in the industry is reflected in particular in the food trends and focus themes of Anuga 2021. Here it can be seen that the food and beverage industry is meeting the challenges of change with new approaches to solutions and innovative products.

The megatrends include sustainability, health and digitalization, which were also confirmed by a representative survey of exhibitors and visitors at Anuga 2019. In addition, there are food trends such as "Alternative Meat Proteins", Clean Label, Convenience & Snacking, Free From & Health Foods, Plant-based Proteins or Foods, Superfoods & Ancient Grains as well as Sustainably Produced or Packaged and focus topics such as Halal, Kosher, Gourmet & Specialty Foods and Private Label.

New congress and event formats

Under the guiding theme "Transform" there will be new congress and event programme formats, includingthe New Food Conference organised by ProVeg under the motto "Plant-based meets cellular agriculture"and the continuation of the innovation summit "Newtrition X - Personalised Nutrition" together with foodregio

The new special format "Anuga Clean Label"also takes into account the megatrend of sustainability and the growing demand for clean eating . One special format is headlined "Free From, Health & Functional".
