Germany's best "vegetable restaurant" is located in Munich - as determined by the We're Smart Award. Tian Munich" is one of the top 100 restaurants for plant-based cuisine worldwide. The international award honors the best restaurants around the globe that cook on a plant-based basis.

Worldwide at the top is "La Distillerie" in Bourglinster in Luxembourg by chef René Mathieu. It is already the second year in a row that he has received this honour. René Mathieu: "More than ten years ago I started with culinary creations on a 100 percent plant-based basis, which is quite a challenge! This award motivates me to go even further. I would also like to thank my team, without whom this success would not be possible."

We're Smart World founder Frank Fol says, "We're seeing more and more chefs discovering the culinary possibilities and environmental benefits of fruits and vegetables and implementing them on the menu with impressive artistry." The awards are used to publish the annual We're Smart Green Guide, where culinary professionals can discover 1,000 restaurants in 46 countries that cook purely plant-based meals.

Tian Munich 
opened in 2014 in the Derag Livinghotel at the Viktualienmarkt in Munich. With the vision of creating a place for high-quality, healthy vegetarian food, Christian Halper founded the first Tian restaurant in Vienna in 2011. His own high standards for exceptional cuisine, combined with a passionate love of experimentation, have now been rewarded. The art of Munich's Tian cuisine was honored at the We're Smart Award as the best German restaurant with vegetarian cuisine.

At the core of the food selection at Tian are seasonal, fairly sourced organic ingredients, primarily from local suppliers. In Chinese, Tian means "heaven"; in French, it is understood to mean a vegetarian stew. In Tyrol, the home of culinary visionary and Tian managing director Paul Ivić, the word means "to do, to tackle" - an attitude that is taken to heart in the restaurant teams.

We're Smart World
The initiator of We're Smart World is Frank Fol, The Vegetable Chef. The former chef and owner of the Michelin-starred restaurant Sire Pynnock has been involved with the many possibilities offered by vegetables and fruit for more than 30 years. A former celebrity chef of the Belgian Culinary Theatre, he is now an international consultant on healthy, balanced and plant-based foods. He advises, coaches and gives workshops all over the world. The international network of top vegetarian chefs publishes the We're Smart World Green Guide annually. The team of testers rates hundreds of restaurants based on whether their menu consists of at least two-thirds fruits and vegetables, as well as criteria such as culinary creativity, environmental footprint and social impact. The best plant-based restaurants are awarded 1 to 5 radishes in We're Smart's Green Guide.
